An original postmodern adaptation inspired by Johann Wolfgang Goethe’s novel The Sorrows of Young Werther. The production employs a collage-like approach, working with atmospheric imagery and storytelling through fusion techniques.
Werther is a hero whose heart burns with wild passion while simultaneously resigning with full awareness. This adaptation draws from Goethe’s novel but pushes it further—into the present day, where love teeters on the edge of an irreplaceable necessity. Yet, in a “corrupt world,” it transforms into an unattainable ideal. The experience of one’s real self dissolves into a mass of often elusive illusions.
“A man is a man, and the little reason he has left is useless when passion rages and the limits of humanity press upon him.”
In a world of fleeting experiences, isolation and loneliness remain the only true ones. The unbearable longing for a meaningful existence ultimately forces Werther to ask: Can death triumph over life?
