Our generation passionately embraces a wide range of worldviews, values, and beliefs. We protest for climate action while holding a mulled wine and a cigarette, debate minority inclusion in corporate leadership over a $4 coffee, and lecture professors with 60 years of experience on how young people think today. Yet, despite these caricatures, our drive to fight for something is actually quite admirable—we are a generation that understands we hold the fate of the world in our hands and want to do something about it.

But what if we were handed even more control—total control? What if, God forbid, war broke out? Would we be able to fight for our noble values with a rifle in hand? Could we unite under a single cause despite our vastly different beliefs? And what about those who don’t believe in anything at all—who simply drift through life, content just to get by, with no guiding ideology? Who would lead such a battalion?

A model play—a comedy of generational archetypes—Who’s the Warrant Officer Here? follows a group of young people gathered in Karlín Barracks, preparing for war. In this military setting, different characters from our generation collide, all facing one absurd, Kafkaesque question: Who the hell is in charge here?
