GABRIELA GABAŠOVÁ

About me

Gabriela Gabašová is an independent theatre director and dramaturg working in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. She studied musical and dramatic arts and piano at the Bratislava Conservatory before earning a Bachelor’s degree in Directing-Dramaturgy and a Master’s degree in Drama Directing from DAMU in Prague.

During her studies, she won the Slovak Theatre Institute’s competition with her adaptation of Goethe’s Werther, which was also selected as a part of Prague Quadriennale 2023, received the Best Student Production Award at the Dream Factory Ostrava festival for Dance Party by Sławomir Mrożek. She was also awarded a scholarship from the Slovak Arts Support Fund to develop two original plays. 

Her professional experience includes acting at the Slovak National Theatre, working as a dramaturgy tutor at the Municipal Theatre of Žilina, and serving as an assistant director at both the Slovak National Theatre and the renowned Farm in the Cave ensemble. She has also collaborated as a dramaturg with Dočasná Company on original dance theatre productions (For sale!) and directed performances for the theatre collective Ductus Deferens (Post-apokalyptická trilogie: Kdo je tady praporčík?,…)

Currently, she works as a freelance director, creating diverse and innovative theatre productions. Her work ranges from drama, comedy to dance theatre and documentary theatre, always pushing artistic boundaries. She is also a playwright, developing original plays that explore contemporary social issues, personal narratives, and unconventional storytelling techniques.
